San Diego Music Society Announces the 2024-2025 Intimate Classics Concert Series

San Diego, CA – September 12, 2024 – The San Diego Music Society is thrilled to unveil its 2024-2025 Intimate Classics Concert Series, featuring extraordinary performances by world-renowned musicians and local talents. This season promises to captivate audiences with a diverse array of classical and jazz-infused concerts, showcasing the timeless beauty and emotional depth of the world’s greatest music.

We are thrilled to participate in this renaissance of classical music happening right now in North County San Diego at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. CCAE is the Lincoln Center of Southern California and the epicenter of this exciting return of classical music for all audiences.

Season Opener: Eugene Drucker and Friends Multiple Grammy Award-winning violinist Eugene Drucker of the Emerson String Quartet joins San Diego Music Society musicians for an unforgettable evening. The concert features Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 “Regenlied” for violin and piano, and Schubert’s monumental String Quintet with two cellos. Performers include Eugene Drucker (violin), Harold Reeves (violin), Julie Park (viola), Roberta Cooper (cello), Paul Tseng (cello), and Ching-Ming Cheng (piano).

Classical and Jazz Infusion: Matt Herskovitz Virtuoso pianist Matt Herskovitz brings his visionary jazz interpretations to classical masterpieces by Bach, Chopin, Ravel, and Gershwin. Audiences will experience these timeless works as never before, including a stunning rendition of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

The Virtuoso Piano’s BFF: Victor Asuncion and Paul Tseng Internationally acclaimed pianist Victor Asuncion teams up with San Diego Music Society’s artistic director and cellist Paul Tseng for a concert celebrating the profound partnership between piano and cello. The program features epic sonatas by Beethoven and Rachmaninoff.

Special Appearance: Zuill Bailey Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey, one of the world’s premier cellists, will grace the CCAE Stage in a special San Diego appearance with pianist Robert Koenig. Bailey’s celebrated artistry, technical prowess, and engaging personality promise an evening of exceptional music.

A New Quartet Spin: Atlys Quartet The unique ATLYS String Quartet will perform an eclectic program featuring music from movies and modern-romantic composers. Known for their innovative approach and dynamic performances, ATLYS will bring a fresh and exciting perspective to the concert series.

Grand Finale: Two, Four, Six The season culminates in a grand finale featuring a program of increasing musicians and grandeur. The concert begins with de Berio’s Duo Concertante, followed by Mozart’s String Quartet in C Major, K. 465 “Dissonance,” and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s powerful Sextet for Strings “Souvenir de Florence.” Performers include Harold Reeves and Adrian Evarkiou-Kaku (violins), Jason Karlyn and Gregory Perrin (violas), and Melissa Chu and Paul Tseng (cellos).
